Hotel Nacional (Gran Meliá Nacional Rio)
This historically landmarked hotel designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1968 is protected by the City of Rio de Janeiro’s Register of Historic Sites. The objective of the renovation and addition is to rejuvenate and update the hotel’s facilities and amenities, increase operational efficiency, and enhance the spirit and artistry of the original design. The complex includes 413 guestrooms within a 33-story cylindrical tower with unsurpassed views of São Conrado Beach. The renovation includes the complex’s convention center and amphitheater. A soon-to-be-built new addition will be added to the complex to augment current facilities. The addition will be built above the convention center to provide 257 new one- and two-bedroom apartments located within two 13-story towers.
