The renovation of an existing two-story building housing artist's work space, and an loft apartment above, was brought about by a structural concern. The street-side masonry facade needed extensive repairs, but instead of re-cladding the whole building in masonry, the idea is to use an inexpensive, yet interesting, pattern and texture to camouflage the ubiquitous masonry behind. The lower level would be covered by an aluminum frame and mesh system with evergreen vines encouraged to grow. The upper level roof and facade would be covered by a "camouflage" pattern of green, yellow, and dark brown shingles.
