| Eco-Boulevards Chicago, Illinois http://archrecord.construction.com/news/daily/archives/080929future.asp As a continuation of the Growing Water: Chicago in 2100 Competition, the Eco-Boulevards project envisions Chicago evolving into a model city for recycling or “growing” water. Eco-Boulevards will connect and expand Chicago's existing parks and waterways, functioning as a giant “Living Machine”, naturally treating 100% of Chicago’s waste and stormwater. Treated water will be harvested and/or returned to the Great Lakes, creating a closed water loop within Chicago.
Each Eco-Boulevard will differ to meet the needs of adjacent neighborhoods. Functioning as open plazas, public spaces and parks, the Eco-Boulevards will re-make the city in the image of its own motto, Urbs in Horto, City in a Garden. phase: Design Development, October 2008 |
