The City of Chicago asked for a design proposal for a “green” single family house located on the South Side of Chicago. Our proposal included the following index of energy efficient technologies and sustainable building practices for the $50/sf affordable home: Orientation Optimization, Open Layout, Thermal Chimney, Minimization of east- and west-facing windows, Exposed Floor Slab, Optimized Material Use and Natural Lighting, Save water w/ Native, Hardy Plantings, Use Vines for Shading, Tune Glazings to Orientation, Expand of the Comfort Envelope, Use Recycled / Reconstituted Materials during Construction, Use Structural Materials as Finish Materials, Recycle Construction Waste.
